About The Role

Due to continued growth, we are seeking a skilled and motivated AV Service Technician to join our team.

In this role, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality AV support, service, commissioning, and programming across client environments. Acting as a frontline technical resource, you will provide remote and onsite support, contribute to commissioning activities, and perform minor-to-intermediate AV control programming.

You will work closely with our Service, Projects, Engineering, and Estimating teams, playing a key role in ensuring AV systems are reliable, functional, and aligned with project and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Service & Support

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across AV, control, and associated network systems (remote and onsite)
  • Provide technical support to Service and Projects teams, including system and programming diagnostics
  • Respond to service calls and manage tickets through the support helpdesk
  • Open, manage, invoice, and close jobs within the company task management system
  • Communicate clearly with clients regarding scheduling, progress updates, and technical solutions
  • Complete service reports, documentation, and records of all works performed

Commissioning & AV Programming

  • Configure, commission, and test AV and control systems in line with project documentation
  • Verify system functionality and performance against project requirements
  • Develop, modify, and maintain AV control system programming, workflows, and user interfaces
  • Perform troubleshooting and refinement of existing control code
  • Accurately document system configurations, IP details, programming files, test results, and signoffs
  • Support senior commissioning and programming engineers as required

General

  • Provide client training on AV and control system operation
  • Assist with training and development of internal staff
  • Review installation and programming quality against company standards
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of internal processes and documentation
  • Assist the estimating team with technical input and programming scope estimates when required

Qualifications

  • Current NSW Driver’s Licence
  • NSW Construction White Card
  • Relevant vendor certifications
  • ACMA Cabler’s Licence (desirable)

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in an AV technician, AV support engineer, or AV programming role
  • Strong understanding of AV, control systems, AV-over-IP, and AV/IT integration
  • Experience commissioning and supporting AV control systems, including modifying and troubleshooting programming
  • Customer service experience within Commercial, Education, or Government environments
  • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with service management and programming tools.
  • Install experience and experience in commissioning and programming (desirable)

Technical Skills

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across AV, networking, and control systems
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • Cable rough-in, termination, testing, and labelling
  • Equipment installation, replacement, and decommissioning
  • Rack building and system integration
  • Equipment configuration, firmware updates, IP addressing, and networking
  • Ability to interpret drawings, schematics, control logic diagrams, and system specifications
  • Excellent time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple jobs simultaneously
  • Basic Crestron programming

About the role

The AV Commissioning Engineer plays a crucial role in the successful delivery of audio-visual projects. This position works closely with programmers, project managers, and field technicians to ensure systems are commissioned accurately, documented thoroughly, and delivered to the highest quality standards.

You will be involved across the full project lifecycle from pre-deployment and testing through to client handover and training, ensuring all AV solutions meet client expectations, technical specifications, and compliance requirements.

Tasks and responsibilities
  • Commissioning: Provide clear and accurate commissioning timelines; Providing pre-deployment commissioning of devices, with detailed documentation and labelling; Validating installation meets design criteria and documentation; IP network validation, troubleshooting and advice to network admins to aid in the deployment of high bandwidth multicast AV over IP; Device configuration to inspection test plan (ITP). Aid in the development of any new ITPs required.; Audio commissioning (tuning), using industry standard transfer function software; Troubleshooting of audio, video, lighting, network and control systems issues; Testing of AV systems to verify project requirements have been met within project timeframe.
  • Documentation: Work with the project team to develop a pre-commissioning checklist, providing a clear understanding of commissioning requirements and identifying any risks; documentation of commissioning process, issues, change management and escalations; accurate documentation of equipment configurations, passwords, serial numbers, MAC addresses, IP addresses, test results, commissioning sign offs and any other information relevant to AV system design.
  • Training: Training of clients on the use of the installed designs and systems; training and development of internal staff.
  • Quality Assurance: Regularly review and assess project installation quality against Syndeticom’s quality and safety standard; assist with the development and improvement of processes relating to project quality, commissioning and programming.
Skills & experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree highly desirable, ideally in an Engineering or IT discipline. Alternatively, Diploma in related fields
  • Optional but desirable experience with Programming – design and development of programming code i.e. AV systems incl. control, audio lighting or relevant systems
  • Minimum of 5 years on commissioning experience for Audio Visual projects
  • Experience deploying systems with Crestron, Extron, Q-Sys, Dante
  • Demonstrated customer service experience
  • Strong decision-making ability

  • Layer 3 networking, including an understanding of IPV4, DHCP, IGMP, QoS, PTP, VLANs
